Microneedling / Collagen Induction Therapy
Have you ever thought about where you'll turn for a gentler approach to looking younger or having healthier looking skin, if you are not interested in getting laser skin resurfacing or cosmetic surgery?
If you haven't heard of microneedling let me tell you a little about it:
Microneedling is a treatment that uses a device with sterile fine point micro surgical steel needles to generate new skin growth and break down old scar tissue.
The treatment itself creates tiny channels in the upper layers of your skin while stimulating the lower layers of your skin.
OH, IT GETS BETTER READ ON!!
That stimulation creates a natural response to where your skin starts producing more collagen and elastin! The repair process begins almost immediately!
I like to compare this process to our muscles, just as we put stress on our muscle fibers to build them, the stress on the lower layer of your skin prompts stronger more structural skin!
HOW AMAZING IT THAT!?
NOW, ON TO WHAT IT CAN ALSO TREAT.....
When you need help unclogging pores, and releasing deeply held congestion, microneedling is a fast and minimally invasive option. This service helps to clear acne, target fine lines, wrinkles, and significantly improve appearance of sun damage or hyperpigmentation.

Nano-Needling
The Technology:
CIT Pen’s sterile, Nano cartridges are available in silicone or surgical steel. The only difference between the nano silicone and nano surgical steel cartridges are the materials used. The premise of the treatment is the same for both cartridges. The pyramid-like tips are specially made in a microscopic size. The diameter is thinner than one single strand of human hair, and almost invisible to the naked eye. This allows for a safe treatment with no down-time and no numbing cream needed as the tips to not invade the dermis regardless of depth.
The Science:
Thousands of superficial, micro-channels per minute are created on the top layer of skin as the CIT Pen drives in topical product. This allows up to 97% better product absorption.
The Result:
The Nano tips infuse ingredients into the epidermis, feeding the skin the nutrients it needs to lighten, tighten, and brighten. Skin will be plumped due to the hydration infusion, filling out lines, wrinkles, and scarring. Nano infusion can also be used to stimulate hair regrowth as the nutrients are retained from active ingredients.

Why Should I Have Microneedling?
Microneedling sounds scarier than it is. Really. It’s a minimally invasive treatment that keeps giving in the form of firm, pretty skin with smaller pores and improved texture—long after you’ve had it done. A small vibrating tip with super skinny needles makes invisible openings in skin’s top layer, which not only stimulates new collagen and elastin, but also helps good-for-you ingredients get deeper to do more. It even minimizes scars and stretch marks.
As we age the body’s ability to regenerate new skin cells and produce collagen significantly decreases. Collagen production is strongest around the age of 20. At 40 we produce approximately 20% less, 30% less at 50.
Microneedling tricks the skin into thinking it has been injured, thus stimulating our natural healing response. The body produces new collagen and elastin and sends it to the perceived wound (your face). Plumping, firming and filling the area.
At Sweet Saffron, I use a device called a CIT PEN. This PEN uses sterile cartridges that are pre-packaged and have 12 surgical steel needles which create tiny precise channels in the skin at a very high speed.
Am I suitable for Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen Induction Therapy is suitable for all skin types. Skin Needling can be safely performed on all skin colors and types. There is no risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (pigmentation of the skin as a result of skin trauma) as the melanocytes remain, like the dermis, intact during Skin Needling. This is the major distinguishing safety feature when comparing Skin Needling and other invasive procedures that are used to treat deep lines and depressed scars, ie laser resurfacing, deep chemical peels and dermabrasion.
However, it is not suitable for patients who:
-
Have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last three months.
-
Have open wounds, cuts, or abrasions on the skin.
-
Have had radiation treatment to the skin within the last year

How many treatments will I need?
I recommend a minimum of 3 to 6 treatments. However, I like to add that even just 1 treatment is better than none. It is amazing serve that still delivers many benefits to the skin. Treatments are typically 4 weeks apart. Deep wrinkles, years of sun damage, stretch marks and scars may require a few series of treatments to achieve desired results. This treatment is progressive, visible results can be seen after a few days, weeks. And will continue to improve for up to 6 months. Normal aging still continues, thus maintenance treatments are recommended.
Does mirconeedling hurt?
Upon arrival I will apply a numbing cream to your skin or the area being treated. After 30 minutes your skin will be comfortable numb and ready for the treatment. Most people feel almost nothing after having been treated with the numbing cream. What you do feel is mainly vibration and pressure. But neither one of those sensations will hurt.
What is the maintenance?
What you do at home is far more important than anything I do in the treatment room. Having an exceptional routine morning and night will give you longer lasting results. I will be sure you are equipped at home with appropriate products to maintain healthy skin.
Having a series of microneedling treatments once a year will maintain your results. I also like to suggest getting treatments done quarterly. Although personally I alternate chemical peels with microneedling (as do many of my clients) this boosts the production of collagen continuously. Treating the skin once a month, alternating between peels and needling. The results are stunning!
What is the downtime?
Immediately after your treatment your skin will look slightly pink to very red and flushed. It can feel and look like a mild sunburn. Each persons skin is very different, some have no or very little redness the next day while others take a few days for the residual redness to dissipate. Each day the redness will decrease. There may be flakiness and dryness as it is exfoliating. Many factors play a part in healing time. During our consultation I can give a better idea of how I think your skin will heal and what the healing time will be. I ALWAYS recommend scheduling a first time needling when you have a few days to recover.
